CAF mentoring program

The goal of the mentors will be to help the all participants develop the attitudes and skills needed to become successful in their personal and professional lives. The Mentoring Program seeks to empower individuals to make better life choices and overcome personal barriers that will enable them to succeed.

Mentor Role
• Take the lead in supporting participants through ongoing, one-on-one mentoring
• Serve as a source of support and a positive role model by modeling desirable behaviors
• Build the relationship with mentee by planning and participating in activities together
• Build self-esteem and motivation
• Help with goal setting and the achievement process
• Establish appropriate boundaries with mentee

Mentor Requirements
• 21 years of age and older
• Prefer a minimum education of a two-year trade school or some college but open to other education backgrounds
• Valid identification
• Submit to application, screening process and a background check
• No arrests or felony convictions within the past three years (individuals with a sex offense, other than prostitution, are prohibited from being mentors)
• Open to working with people from diverse backgrounds with criminal histories
• Adhere to all program policies and procedures
• Dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments

• Willing and active listener
• Encouraging and supportive
• Patient and flexible
• Tolerant and respectful of individual differences
• Ability to take constructive feedback to improve the mentoring relationship
• Ability to practice problem solving skills to suggest solutions/alternatives
• Achieved stability and satisfaction in professional and personal life
